Vitamin K2 Complex

Best-in-class: 3-K Complete

Vitamins✅ Clinically validated📊 Correlative data🧪 Theoretical

A full vitamin-K complex (K1 plus MK-4 and MK-7 forms of K2) that activates the proteins directing calcium into bone and away from arteries.

How Vitamin K2 Complex actually works

Vitamin K is the cofactor for gamma-glutamyl carboxylase, the enzyme that adds a carboxyl group to specific glutamate residues on a handful of proteins — and that carboxylation is what lets those proteins bind calcium. Two matter here. Osteocalcin, once carboxylated, deposits calcium into bone matrix. Matrix Gla protein, once carboxylated, actively inhibits calcification in arterial walls. So K2 is the traffic director deciding where calcium ends up. MK-4 has a half-life of hours and needs frequent dosing; MK-7 lasts days.

How to read these tiers

These tiers tell you how much human evidence exists — not how well something works. This is the research space, and most of what’s in here is new rather than disproven. Something sitting at “theoretical” usually means nobody has funded the trial, not that the trial was run and failed.

The trap runs the other way too: something can be clinically validated and still do very little for you specifically. A statistically significant result in a study population is not a promise about your body.

✗ is a safety flag, not a grade. Where you see it, the concern is harm — not a disappointing trial. A compound tested for one purpose and found not to help there can still be worth studying somewhere else, so a negative result never gets rendered as a cross. It sits alongside the tier, because something can be both well-studied and genuinely risky.

My job is to tell you which one you’re looking at, and let you make the call. Grading something low isn’t me dismissing it — it’s me refusing to oversell it. This is the research space, and being able to reason forward from a mechanism matters as much as waiting for the trial.

Coach Cam’s take

The partner vitamin D needs, and the reason high-dose D on its own is not obviously benign — D increases calcium absorption, and without adequate K2 there is nothing directing that calcium away from your arteries. The Rotterdam cohort linked higher K2 intake to substantially lower arterial calcification and cardiac mortality. The real interaction is warfarin, which works by blocking exactly this enzyme: anyone on it needs consistent vitamin K intake, not zero, and needs to tell their prescriber.

⚠️ Good to know: If you supplement D and calcium, K2 is the partner that helps put the calcium in the right place.
⏱ Timing that matters for safety: Directly antagonises warfarin
