How Citrus Bioflavonoids actually works
A complex of hesperidin, diosmin, naringin and related flavonoids. Collectively they strengthen capillary walls, improve venous tone and have antioxidant activity; naringin is also a notable CYP3A4 inhibitor, which is the grapefruit-juice drug interaction in isolated form.

- The diosmin/hesperidin combination (Daflon) has genuinely good RCT evidence for chronic venous insufficiency and haemorrhoids — reduced oedema, pain and bleeding. This is a real clinical indication in Europe.
- Hesperidin trials show modest improvements in endothelial function and blood pressure.
- The 'improves vitamin C absorption' claim, which is the main marketing line, has essentially no human support.

The broader, less standardised version of the diosmin-hesperidin evidence — reasonable, though the trials used defined ratios rather than a general complex. The naringin content is the thing worth flagging: CYP3A4 inhibition raises blood levels of a long list of medications, and it is rarely mentioned on the label. Check it against anything you take that carries a grapefruit warning.
