    Hormones. Treat the underlying autoimmune or inflammatory condition. Statins have a well-documented anti-inflammatory effect beyond lipid lowering.

Residual inflammatory risk. Plaque forms and destabilises through inflammation as well as lipids, so hitting an ApoB target while CRP stays high leaves a meaningful part of the risk untouched.

Rule out the obvious first — CRP rises with any infection, injury or hard training, so retest rested and well. If it stays up: sleep, visceral fat, periodontal disease, gut health, omega-3s. Persistent unexplained elevation deserves a real workup.

Iron high, and that is not the good kind
Ferritin high · Iron saturation >45% · hs-CRP normal

Ferritin rises with inflammation, so a high value usually means inflammation rather than iron. When CRP is normal and saturation is genuinely high, iron overload moves up the list.

Saturation above 45% with a normal CRP is the combination that warrants haemochromatosis genetic testing — it is common, easily treated early, and does organ damage if it is missed for decades. Stop any iron supplement until this is sorted.

Inflammation is running, and it is skewing your other results

An active inflammatory state. Beyond its own risk, it distorts the panel — ferritin rises, albumin and zinc fall, iron studies mislead. Reading those markers at face value while this is running gives wrong answers.

Retest when well. If it persists with no obvious cause, that needs investigating rather than supplementing: autoimmune disease, chronic infection, dental disease, gut inflammation, poorly controlled metabolic disease. Do not interpret ferritin or iron studies until it settles.

Oxidative stress with the metabolic cause attached

F2-isoprostane is the most reliable oxidative stress measure available. Raised alongside metabolic markers, it is a consequence of the metabolic picture rather than a separate problem to buy antioxidants for.
