Why this panel

Low desire in women gets dismissed as psychological far more often than it should. There are measurable hormonal contributors — and the two most common, low free testosterone from high SHBG, and low oestradiol — are both identifiable on a blood test and both have real management options.

💡 What most people missThe pill is the most common reversible cause and almost nobody connects it. Combined oral contraceptives raise SHBG substantially, sometimes several-fold, and SHBG binds testosterone. Total testosterone can look completely normal while free testosterone — the part that actually does anything — is on the floor. SHBG can also stay elevated for months after stopping. The second big one is perimenopause, where falling oestradiol causes dryness and pain, and pain reliably kills desire. Both need free testosterone and SHBG measured, not just total.
⏰ When to get it drawnMorning, 7–10am. If still cycling, days 2–5 for the hormones. Off biotin 72 hours.
