Trace Minerals
Best-in-class: Trace Minerals
A balanced blend of the lesser-known but essential trace minerals (zinc, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, selenium, boron) that modern diets often under-supply.
How Trace Minerals actually works
A full-spectrum blend supplying zinc, selenium, copper, manganese, chromium, molybdenum, iodine and boron at nutritional rather than therapeutic doses. Each has its own defined enzymatic role — the argument for taking them together is that they compete for shared transporters, so correcting one in isolation at a high dose can induce a shortfall in another. Zinc versus copper is the classic example.
Trace Minerals quick facts
| Suggested dose | As directed with food. |
| How often | Daily, with food |
| Who it's for | Filling trace-mineral gaps, especially on restricted or processed diets. |
✅ Clinically validated
- Corrects sub-clinical trace-mineral gaps that impair enzyme function (well-established at the deficiency level).
- Provides cofactors for hundreds of metalloenzymes.
📊 Correlative data
- Depleted soils and processed diets track with widespread marginal trace-mineral status.
🧪 Theoretical / extrapolated benefits
- Balanced low-dose repletion is sensible; isolated megadosing any one mineral risks imbalance.
These tiers tell you how much human evidence exists — not how well something works. This is the research space, and most of what’s in here is new rather than disproven. Something sitting at “theoretical” usually means nobody has funded the trial, not that the trial was run and failed.
The trap runs the other way too: something can be clinically validated and still do very little for you specifically. A statistically significant result in a study population is not a promise about your body.
- ✅ Clinically validated — human randomised trials or meta-analyses support it. The strongest footing available.
- 📊 Correlative — observational or epidemiological data. Suggestive, and genuinely useful for direction, but it cannot establish cause.
- 🧪 Theoretical / mechanistic — the mechanism is understood and often demonstrated in cells or animals, and the human trial doesn’t exist yet. Unproven is not the same as ineffective. Plenty of what’s standard practice today sat here five years ago.
✗ is a safety flag, not a grade. Where you see it, the concern is harm — not a disappointing trial. A compound tested for one purpose and found not to help there can still be worth studying somewhere else, so a negative result never gets rendered as a cross. It sits alongside the tier, because something can be both well-studied and genuinely risky.
My job is to tell you which one you’re looking at, and let you make the call. Grading something low isn’t me dismissing it — it’s me refusing to oversell it. This is the research space, and being able to reason forward from a mechanism matters as much as waiting for the trial.
A reasonable hedge against soil depletion and a narrow diet, and a much safer format than megadosing any single mineral. It is insurance rather than intervention — if a specific deficiency is suspected, test and correct that one properly. Check it against anything else you take, since stacking a trace blend on top of a multivitamin and a separate zinc is how people accidentally reach a dose that matters.
Trace Minerals — safety & side effects
- Generally well tolerated at the low doses typical of these products.
- Add them to what you already take. The commonest problem is a trace mineral blend plus a multivitamin plus a standalone, quietly taking you past the upper limit for zinc, copper, selenium or manganese.
- Ionic and sea-derived products can carry lithium, boron and heavy metals — check that the vendor publishes a contaminant assay.
Not medical advice. If you take prescription medication or have a diagnosed condition, check this against it with a pharmacist or doctor — pharmacists are underused and free.
