Gelatin + Vitamin C

Skin & Structural✅ Clinically validated📊 Correlative data🧪 Theoretical

Gelatin taken with vitamin C an hour before loading a tendon. The protocol matters more than the ingredient, which is why it is listed as a pair.

How Gelatin + Vitamin C actually works

Undenatured gelatin plus ascorbate, timed before loading the tendon. The mechanism is specific: tendon and ligament have poor blood supply, and there is a brief window of elevated perfusion during and after loading. Supplying collagen precursors and the obligate prolyl hydroxylase cofactor so they are circulating during that window is the entire intervention.

Gelatin + Vitamin C quick facts

Suggested dose15 g gelatin or hydrolysed collagen + 50 mg vitamin C, ONE HOUR before 6–10 minutes of targeted tendon loading.
How oftenPer session, on days you load the tendon
Who it's forTendinopathy, joint rehab, anyone loading connective tissue hard.

How to read these tiers

These tiers tell you how much human evidence exists — not how well something works. This is the research space, and most of what’s in here is new rather than disproven. Something sitting at “theoretical” usually means nobody has funded the trial, not that the trial was run and failed.

The trap runs the other way too: something can be clinically validated and still do very little for you specifically. A statistically significant result in a study population is not a promise about your body.

✗ is a safety flag, not a grade. Where you see it, the concern is harm — not a disappointing trial. A compound tested for one purpose and found not to help there can still be worth studying somewhere else, so a negative result never gets rendered as a cross. It sits alongside the tier, because something can be both well-studied and genuinely risky.

My job is to tell you which one you’re looking at, and let you make the call. Grading something low isn’t me dismissing it — it’s me refusing to oversell it. This is the research space, and being able to reason forward from a mechanism matters as much as waiting for the trial.

Coach Cam’s take

This is Keith Baar's work, and the timing is the intervention rather than the ingredients — roughly an hour before loading, followed by short intense tendon loading. Taken at a random time it is just gelatin. Collagen synthesis markers rose substantially in the human studies. The most protocol-dependent supplement in this catalogue.

⚠️ Good to know: The timing is the intervention. Gelatin at a random time of day is just low-quality protein — tendon is poorly vascularised and the one-hour pre-load window is when circulating amino acids actually reach it. Skipping the loading component means skipping the mechanism entirely.
