Does PDRN actually work on skin?
This is a different question from whether it works injected, and the answer is often different too — a molecule has to survive the stratum corneum before any of its biology matters. Full PDRN breakdown →
Human clinical evidence
- Strong randomised evidence — for the injected form, in wound healing and diabetic foot ulcers, plus a regulatory licence in Italy. Aesthetic injectable use is routine in Korean practice.
- Topical PDRN has nothing like that evidence base. Studies are small, short and usually industry-adjacent, and they measure skin hydration and comfort rather than the remodelling that injection produces.
Correlative data
- Extremely popular in Korean skincare as a 'salmon DNA' serum, and reported experience is of hydration, calming and post-procedure comfort — real, pleasant, and a smaller claim than the marketing makes.
How the mechanism reads
- Adenosine A2A receptor agonism drives VEGF and angiogenesis; the DNA fragments also supply ready-made purines and pyrimidines so fibroblasts spend less energy building nucleotides.
- Then the delivery ceiling. PDRN fragments run 50–1,500 kDa. Intact skin admits very little above about 0.5 kDa — so a serum cannot place this where fibroblasts are, and an injection can. Best value from a topical PDRN is immediately after microneedling or laser, when the barrier is deliberately open.
- Polydeoxyribonucleotide is a mixture of DNA fragments, usually salmon-derived, and the proposed mechanism is adenosine A2A receptor agonism plus a salvage-pathway supply of nucleotides — an anti-inflammatory and pro-angiogenic signal rather than a structural ingredient.
- The gap between the injected and the topical case is wider here than for anything else in this section. The clinical literature is essentially all intradermal or intra-articular. A DNA polymer is a very large molecule to be asking through an intact barrier, so a topical PDRN product is a mechanism borrowed from a route it was not tested on — worth trying, not worth assuming.
How to use PDRN Body Lotion
Step 7 — Body
Body. Good on tight or post-sun skin. Body skin is thicker and more forgiving than the face, which means slower results and far less irritation risk. Apply after a shower while the skin is still damp. No conflicts worth naming, which is unusual — it layers under almost anything. The honest caveat is that the clinical data behind PDRN is injected, so a topical is a mechanism borrowed from another route.
What to expect, and when
Comfort in days.
What not to layer with PDRN Body Lotion
- PDRN + A cream, if you expect injection results — Not an interaction — a size problem. Injected and topical PDRN are different propositions and the literature does not transfer.
